1 March

A Ms Plus Size is Me South Africa function, attended by the finalists, will be held at Maplankeng in Rocklands, adjacent the Mangaung Outdoor Sports Centre in Bloemfontein. The event starts at 18:00. The nine finalists from the Free State vying for the coveted 2018 title for unmarried women will parade on the catwalk. The finalists were announced in November. The function paves the way for the final round on 7 April in which the top three will be crowned. Tickets are available at R120 per person. Call Chief Leeuw on 072-950-0032.

10 March

The Free State Symphony Orchestra (FSSO) starts 2018 on a French note with pianist Bryan Wallick at the Sand du Plessis theatre.

The programme includes “Orpheus” in the Underworld Overture (Offenbach), Concerto in G major for Piano (Ravel) and Symphony in D minor (Franck), with Alexander Fokkens on the podium.

Fokkens is the artistic director and chief executive officer of the FSSO and the conductor of the Free State Youth Symphony Orchestra.

With March being Francophonie month, the FSSO seized the opportunity to partner with the Alliance Française de Bloemfontein to celebrate French language and culture.

The Alliance has been in existence for 64 years, and as the only French cultural organisation in Bloemfontein, it reaches out to all Francophone speakers and their diverse cultures.

Tickets are available at Pacofs.

Tickets are R150 for adults, R100 for students and pensioners (on presentation of valid cards), R100 for group bookings of ten people and R50 for children (six to 18 years). Dial 051-447-7772 for reservations.

27 to 29 March

Pacofs and the Department of Arts and Culture’s Creative Arts Incubator Programme will be offering Vukallective, a group of forward-thinking-boundary-pushing-toe-stepping artists.

This will be held at the André Huguenet Theatre, starting at 18:30. The event will see new innovative work that artists in Bloemfontein can offer.

Tickets are available at R80 at Pacofs or Computicket.

7 April

Former learners of the Botshabelo-based Seemahale Secondary School, who matriculated in 1990, are invited to a meeting on 7 April where they will discuss plans for a reunion of the matric class of 1990. At the meeting, a date for the reunion will be decided on and organising committees will be elected.
