A 33-year-old man suspected of allegedly murdering a 35-year-old woman and attempted to murder her four-year-old daughter remains in the Reitz Hospital under police guard.Capt. Zweli Mohobeleli, regional police spokesperson, said the man was still recovering in hospital. He said the suspect attempted to commit suicide after the incident on Tuesday, 27 November. “He was found in possession of a rope with which the police suspected he intended to hang himself with,” said Mohobeleli.The suspect was due to appear in court on Friday, 30 November. However, Mohobeleli said the matter was postponed because the suspect was reported unfit. He said the man allegedly attacked the woman and her four-year-old daughter, fatally stabbing the mother to death. Luckily the child survived the horrific incident.Mohobeleli said the attack followed a dispute between the deceased and the suspect. The suspect and the deceased reportedly had a love affair from which they had a daughter.“The child was stabbed and injured in the arm by the man during the confrontation. “The child received stitches and was later discharged from hospital,” he said.Mohobeleli said the suspect had recently separated with the deceased, after they reportedly had a fall-out, leading to the death of the woman.The suspect reportedly went to the deceased’s place last Tuesday. An argument ensued, which led to him allegedly stabbing the deceased multiple times with a sharp object.
