Women battle it out

THE Free State Sasol Women’s League reaches its climax with eight teams competing for top honours at the play-offs set for Welkom on Saturday (22/10).

The clubs are: Ace Milan, Bloemfontein Celtic, Simunye Ladiesstet Ladies , Tsunami Queens, Black Urban, Central University of Technology, Happy Ladies and Kovsies.

They finished top in the Free State. Ace Milan, winner of Stream A, will face off with Celtic, winner of Stream B. These clubs will compete for this year’s Free State championship, with the winner going through to the national championship. The members of the winning team will receive gold medals and a floating trophy, while the team finishing as runner-up will receive silver.

Celtic is the current champion and holds the record as winner of the Free State title more times than any other.

Simunye and Queens, who finished as runner-up in Stream A and Stream B respectively, will compete for bronze medals, while the other four clubs will scramble for the leftovers.

The prizes are (beginning with first place, through to eighth): R50 000, R30 000, R25 000, R20 000, R17 000, R16 000, R15 000 and R14 000.
