WE can. I can. This is how Cansa pledges its support in the fight against cancer on World Cancer Day on Thursday (04/02).

This campaign encourages actions everyone can take to help reduce the risk of cancer, achieve greater equity in cancer care and make fighting cancer a priority at the highest political levels.

“World Cancer Day is the singular initiative under which the entire world can unite in the fight against the global cancer epidemic,” says Elize Joubert, Cansa CEO.

“We challenge corporates, organisations, families, friends and individuals to take on this challenge and to pledge their support in striving for a cancer-free South Africa.”

With the theme We can, I can, World Cancer Day highlights how each individual and the community can make a difference in the fight against cancer and provide better support to cancer survivors.

“World Cancer Day is a chance to reflect on what you can do, to make a pledge and to take action.”

Individuals can take part by taking a World Cancer Day Pledge, such as making a healthy lifestyle choice, understanding that early detection can save lives, supporting others and caring for others.

Another part of the campaign, #NoHairSelfie, encourages people to post photos of themselves on social media after taking part in the Cansa Shavathon, or simply by using an app to create awareness of cancer and show solidarity with cancer survivors.

Companies can also get involved by creating healthy work environments and by encouraging employees to make healthy lifestyle choices.

“Just as cancer affects everyone in different ways, everyone has the power to take action to reduce the impact of the disease on individuals, families and communities. Whatever you choose to do – we can, I can make a difference.”
