MARISKA VAN TONDER (16), a pupil at the Adamantia High School, has been chosen as the March SuperSport Let’s Play Sports Star of the Month for Express Northern Cape.

Mariska began her wrestling career in 2008. She has been a member of the Indovu Amateur Wrestling Club in Kimberley and a member of the Northern Cape Wrestling Association since the start of her career.

Mariska attended a refereeing course in Welkom on 6 March.

She may now act as a referee during tournaments of the Indovu Club and the Northern Cape Wrestling Association. During the annual Northern Cape training camp and Northern Cape trials, she participated and also acted as an official.

She won a gold medal at the South African youth trials during October 2015.

At the Martin Kruger Open in Gauteng, she won a gold medal in the ladies freestyle division.

She attended the South African Trainers Coach course in Klerksdorp on 9 April. Mariska was selected to participate in the South African Presidents Championship from 28 to 30 April as a member of the Amateur Northern Cape team.

Her motto is: “Believe and put all your trust in God and no one can defeat you with Him by your side.”

  • More on the Let’s Play initiative:

Over time, SuperSport has evolved as the quintessential sports authority.

With such strong sporting influence within the South African market, SuperSport has been perfectly poised to harness this power and rally the public and corporates to truly make a difference in society.

SuperSport determined that there are huge issues severely inhibiting the development of children through skills learned by playing, physical education and sport – all of which are imperative for the holistic development of young people.

It was from this insight that Let’s Play was born in November 2005, with the aim of elevating awareness of our social situation and to introduce and encourage play, activity and sport in schools.
