Kumba Iron Ore’s Sishen mine recently hosted its Long Service Awards, General Manager’s Achievers Awards and Alpha Awards function at the Kalahari Country Club. The ceremony celebrated the many years of loyalty, commitment, innovation and sustainability which employees dedicated to the business. Mapi Mobwano, Sishen general manager, praised the workers in his keynote address.“You have seen Sishen at all its stages of growth and you have still not reached a point where you do not want to see anymore. This is what commitment and dedication mean. This is truly a memorable occasion in your life and a wonderful achievement to celebrate. To work for the number of years you have in one company, is proof that we can achieve anything we set our minds to.”The recipients represented departments such as mining, plant, engineering and support services. In all the award categories these employees contributed immensely to the mine’s goals, culture and environment, and they continue to make a lasting impression on Sishen’s journey to being the benchmark in Anglo by 2020 and best in class by 2022.Mobwano also said he wants to urge the employees to coach and pass on their wisdom to the youth.“With the operational and safety challenges we sometimes have to deal with to achieve our targets, it can be easy for one to lose respect, but with good attitude one never loses self-respect or respect for others. “You are a living example of loyalty and you are also a benefit to others who you touch in your life’s journey.“These awards reinforce the strength of our employees and celebrate what they do right in order to influence our future success. Through this tradition we connect the organisation and its people in a way that increases our commitment and care for each other,” he said.
