PRODIGY praise singer Rorisang Motseki (10) is destined for the big league in the entertainment industry.

She is a nominee in this year’s South African Traditional Music Awards (Satma).

Rorisang, with stage name Jah Rose, is one of two candidates nominated for the Best Praise Singer category.

The other nominee is Jessica Mbangeni, nominated for her praise song “Tribute to the African Heroines”.

Rorisang has been nominated for “Modimo O Phelang”, meaning the Living God.

The nominees that included established artists for the 11 categories were announced in Durban during August.

Rorisang got the nod after receiving a high number of public votes for her single.

The voting is still on and closes on 1 October. The category winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony in Richards Bay on the same day.

This is Rorisang’s first-ever nomination and was her first entry. The Bloemfontein promising star’s nomination came barely a year after she started her singing career.

Proud father Benny Motseki said it was remarkable that Rorisang’s single got nominated without air-play on national radio stations broadcasting in native African languages.

“The praise song gained much air-play on community radio stations and we are grateful for that. It has given her exposure and helped reveal her talent,” said Motseki.

Rorisang is a gr. 4 learner at the Tlama-nang Primary School in Hoopstad. She follows in the footsteps of her parents, Benny and Maria, who are both reggae artists. They were nominated in 2015.

This year is the 11th edition of the Satma awards which recognises South African artists’ contribution in traditional and cultural music that promotes heritage.

The theme for this year is My Culture, Your Culture, One Nation.
