Young musicians encouraged to audition

2019-05-01 06:01

The Free State Symphony Orchestra invites youth enthusiasts in orchestra to apply for participation in the 2019 Youth Concerto Festival.

It will be held on 12 October in the Odeion at the University of the Free State. The festival is for enthusiastic young singers and instrumentalists. Interested candidates are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to perform with the Free State Symphony Orchestra a work of their choice.

This is one of the initiatives by the FSSO aimed at promoting orchestral playing at the highest level for young musicians, simultaneously enhancing professionalism and enabling youngsters to improve their skills.

Applications close on 15 May and no late entries will be accepted. This process will be followed by auditions on 1 June to select the best candidates to perform at the festival in October.

Auditions will be held in Room 10, Odeion, UFS campus. Instrumentalists must play one or two movements from a concerto or single movement work for solo instrument and orchestra, not exceeding 15 minutes. Singers must perform an aria or suitable part of a work for voice and orchestra. Successful candidates must perform the same work at the concert as at the audition and must be available for rehearsals on 10 and 11 October.

Entry forms are available on https://fsso.org.za/ and must be sent to Michelle Hetzel, HetzelM@ufs.ac.za.
