Young musicians perform

2019-09-04 06:01

The Odeion Sinfonia concert, which is free for the public, will be on Sunday (08/09) in the Odeion, starting at 16:00.

This concert will pay homage to Derek and Anne Ochse.

The programme will consist of two double concerti, as well as two themes and variations.

The double concerti have been included to give young musicians the chance to perform in the orchestra as soloists.

The Odeion Sinfonia is a strings-only orchestra housed in the Odeion School of Music comprising string students studying at the school and string members of the Free State Youth Orchestra.

The orchestra is under the direction of the highly acclaimed cellist and chamber musician, Anmari van der Westhuizen (cellist of the Odeion String Quartet).

Van der Westhuizen has more than 30 years of experience in playing and conducting chamber music.

The principal aims of this orchestra are to provide excellent training and valuable experience in string and ensemble playing, to adequately prepare string students for orchestral playing, to present them with numerous ensemble and orchestral concert playing opportunities and to generally promote quality string and ensemble playing.
