Rising sprinter Lucky Moleyane (17), a learner of Grey College in Bloemfontein, has been chosen as the deserving SuperSport Let’s Play Sport Star of the Month for Express.

He is the winner for February for achievements in the 100m and 200m athletic events, respectively.

Lucky’s superb performance saw him improve his 200m record finishing in 21.51 seconds at the Grey College Athletics Meetings staged in January. His performance saw him also surpassed the previous record of 21,90 seconds in the 200m set by L Oelschig in 1997.

The teenage athlete also improved his record in the 100m after he clocked 10.57 seconds at the Free State Schools interdistrict Motheo and Xhariep Meetings held in Bloemfontein last month.

Lucky is the current reigning 2020 Free State Inter High Athletics Champion for his brilliant performance in the sprinting events. He is the record holder in the 100m (10.46 seconds) and 200m (20.98 seconds) boys u.18 category. The latest achievement sees him continued his winning reputation from 2019. Last year Lucky set a new record for Grey College in the 200m of 21.49 seconds. The previous record of 22.10 seconds was set by sprinters Ian Small-Smith and Pierre Swart. The record stood for 36-years.

Lucky’s motto is:” Have courage and be kind.”

More on the Let’s Play initiative:

SuperSport over time has evolved as the quintessential sports authority. With such strong sporting influence within the South African market, SuperSport has been perfectly poised to harness this power and rally the public and corporates to truly make a difference in society.

SuperSport identified that there were huge issues severely inhibiting the development of children through skills learned by playing, physical education and sport – all of which are imperative to the holistic development of young people.

It was from this insight that Let’s Play was born in November 2005 with the aim of elevating awareness of our social situation and to introduce and encourage play, activity and sport in schools.

Send your nomination for March now. Nominations close on 26 March and must include name, age, contact details, the name of school and a short paragraph (not more 200 words) on what you have achieved. Email your nomination to supersport@¬, or fax it to 086-552-4922.

Call Lynne Landman or Juanré Viviers at Z PR on 051-522-9574.
