IT is one of the most interesting and fascinating developments in improving chronic pain and dysfunction in the body - it is deep fascia relief and Umvoti has its own expert therapist.

Liza Kimble has been a massage therapist since 1993, where her quest to find a better way to improve chronic pain and dysfunction in the body led her to the fascinating journey of discovering fascia.

She studied muscle activation and lynotherapy as well as trauma release exercises with David Berceli from U.S. and went to Germany last year to the University of Ulm where she attended the fascia research summer school to gain the latest knowledge of scientists worldwide who are paving the way to a new understanding of this amazing connective tissue. and#034;Fascia is the strong white stuff surrounding the muscles and when it locks it is the reason why our bodies are either in pain or compensating in sport and therefore injuring. It wraps around the body in a continuous web like cling film. “Basically if we strip our skin off, we have another perfectly intact layer beneath that which looks like a wet suit. The wet suit connects to the layer beneath it which is the fascia covering the muscles. The body must be treated holistically to heal effectively. “Working on the area of pain as opposed to what caused it is only treating symptoms and not the cause. I combine my knowledge into massage treatments. I believe that people should be empowered to really understand how their bodies work and how to heal themselves.and#034;

The treatments are widely ranged and Kimble is able to help with not just sports injuries through fascia massage and trauma release, but also with the stress young people. The immune system is directly linked to stress and pulls on the fascial slings, so treatment during stressful times is hugely beneficial. This will help them to cope better with their learning. There have also been many well-documented cases of children with ADD and ADHD benefitting positively from these treatments and Kimble can do a series of tests that show where the weaknesses of the body lie, and how to strengthen them with fairly simple but effective exercises. These make athletes faster and stronger, something our young sportsmen and women can appreciate. It is very individual, but life-changing for those with the information to help themselves get stronger and injury and pain free. Working with, as opposed to against, the body holistically improves an individualand#039;s overall well being.

This does not only apply to sportsmen and women, but to those suffering chronic pain in various areas of the body, with imbalances and postural problems. Kimble has a practice in Hermannsburg and Durban. To contact her e-mail lizasimonekimble@gmail. com
