Going beyond call of duty

2015-07-08 06:00

WHILE on our way to Greytown en route to the North Coast on 8 June, our car hit two huge craters (read potholes) and we had to stop to change the wheel. This was on the stretch between Mooi River and Greytown.

Nobody seemed interested to stop and assist, except Captain Naicker from the Greytown SAPS who stopped to render assistance.

He took charge of the situation and replaced the damaged wheel with the spare. Afterwards, he assisted us to repack the car as all our luggage was on the side of the road.

Back in the car he asked us to follow him as “he knew where all the potholes were”, so we were weaving along the road to avoid further damage.

He stopped us on the outskirts of Greytown and invited us for a cup of tea and to clean up at his home.

We thanked him sincerely, but instead popped in at family in town to clean up. There we also learnt about Naicker, who seems to be one of the top police officers of which your town can be justifiably proud .

Captain Mari Naicker, our sincerest thanks and gratitude to you and your wife for having come to our rescue.

There are certainly still some angels about, those who assist humankind in their hour of need.

May God bless you and your family.

Japie and Marie Dantuma.
