“ALL great careers start at the beginning.” This statement may sound frivolous at first, but if one thinks about it, it must be true.

Our Hackers Competition, which took place on Saturday 22 August, may just be such a and#034;beginningand#034; for one or some of the seven novices who joined 13 of our golfers for this fun afternoon of American Scramble.

Everyone brought a prize, which ensured that everyone won a prize. The winners were Dean and Marianne Brown, Richard Cyrus and Jack Riddle. Second was Sidney Bondesio and son Ruben with Chris Dutton and daughter Michaela.

We remind all golfers about the Wembley Golf Day which takes place on Saturday 29 August. The format is four-ball alliance. Enter your four-ball on the entry list at the club or phone Elmarie, before the field fills up. Having played in this competition a number of times, I can assure you that there will be a scrumptious halfway snack and delicious supper to boot.

Friday is Happy Hour. Build it is sponsoring the meal. R20 ticket puts you in the draw to win R1 000 or a bottle of Chivas Regal. We hope to see you at the club on Friday night.

Pam Paul walked away with the cash on Friday. Congratulations, Pam. The next attendance draw will be on Friday 4 September, with R100 up for grabs..

Sunday golf special: The and#034;9@9and#034; entry fee is R40 and to play 18 holes is R80. Richard Chiazzari is sponsoring a chicken for the and#034;9@9and#034; that will be up for winning on Sunday mornings. Robin Furniss won last week on 23 points.

Dates to diarise

Friday 28 August - Happy Hour sponsored by Build it

Saturday 29 August - Wembley Golf Day
