Greytown Mountain Bike Festival

2015-04-30 13:53

WHILE the Greytown Mountain Bike Festival might not be the biggest or toughest event on the biking calendar it certainly rates as the best value-for-money. Set in the picturesque surrounds of Greytown, the varied terrain provides opportunities for mountain bikers of all ages and abilities.

The start and finish is at the spacious Beehive venue which also offers excellent camping facilities and ablutions. For hungry cyclists, their families and spectators, there will be a number of food and beverage stalls open throughout the weekend

On Saturday 2 May the 35km route covers sections of the forests, farm lands and open veld, with thrilling biking and breathtaking views.

On Sunday 3 May rides are scenic, but challenging routes which offer intermediate and experienced riders a taste of what classic mountain biking is really about - challenging but easily attainable – if you’ve done your homework.

Sunday’s rides are part of the Greytown Classic which is a CSA-sanctioned event

On both days there is a family ride of 10km and a children’s fun ride of about three kilometres to provide all-round entertainment. In addition there will be a 10km trail run on Saturday at 2pm and a 10km run at 9am on Sunday

The buzz of Saturday evening will be a pub evening at the Beehive just outside Greytown on the Rietvlei road.

Here you will enjoy the camaraderie of the other MTB’ers and their families and the family of some 60 Greytown MTB Club members who have prepared this popular event
