Greytown Racing Pigeon Club news

2015-08-19 06:00

AS there was no report last week due to the public holiday, here is a belated report.

Last weekand#039;s race was a yearling one from both Bethal, 292 kms and Kroonstad, 363 kms.

Both races were won by the Naicker Bros who took the first three positions in the Kroonstad one leaving RD Lofts in the other three places,

In the Bethal race, they took first, third, fourth, fifth and ninth with Old Grizzle second and 10th, M Lofts sixth and eighth and RD Lofts seventh.

They also won the Breeders’ Stakes trophy.

Last weekend we liberated 900 pigeons for the Border Homing Union on a nice clear day with a clean liberation, with all pigeons cleared within one minute.

Reports indicate it was a perfect race.

Last weekend we had an open race from Pietersburg, 596 kms, with Naickers again preventing the Old Grizzle from claiming his first win of the season. Of the three birds clocked on the day the Brothers took the first two positions with the Old Grizzle limping in at third.

After a 7.30am liberation the first bird was clocked at 16.17pm with the second at 16.45 with third position being filled at 17.49pm.

Once again the birds had overflown and came back from Pietermaritzburg.

Naicker Bros also won the MR Trophy.

It would be interesting to know what distance these birds are actually flying, as the distance given is a straight line, and the birds do not fly in a straight line but down valleys, etc, which is amazing when you realise that this bird only weighs about two kilograms.

Could a human do that sort of thing - not likely with no map.
