FOR many years the annual Greytown to Muden road race was one of the highlights on the race calendar until the event was stopped in 2006. However, thanks to the initiative and enthusiasm of the Muden Athletics Society this well-known race is once again an annual feature on the South African road runners’ calendar.

Last Sunday about 200 runners lined up at the start on the Greytown to Muden road to run the 25kms to Muden – scenically its a great race, but there were a number of uphill and downhills again and runners enjoyed the race, which went well.

Race organisers were happy with the turnout and look forward to getting more entries next year. The Greytown to Muden road race will feature on the SA road runners’ calendar every year.

Organiser spokesperson asked the Greytown Gazette to express their thanks to those who rallied around to assist and make sure that the race went smoothly. The words of Umvoti Deputy Mayor Enoch Shange, in addressing the crowd at the finish, were well received as he expressed appreciation of the efforts of the organisers to educate the young on the importance of a healthy lifestyle through the discipline and commitment to sport and education to build up a positive future for themselves.

The organisers thank Umvoti Municipality’s Tourism LED Department for stepping in to assist with all the logistics and red tape that was needed to pull an event like this together. Thanks were also expressed to emergency personnel, police, RTI and EMRS for their presence and assistance on the day and lastly to Alert Private Ambulance Services who donated an ambulance for use on the day.
