FOR the past 11 years, our Grade 10 pupils have participated in the Germany Exchange Programme (GEP).

Parents and teachers agree that each one experiences astounding positive personal growth through this experience, which cannot be measured with a mark book.

Our Grade 10 pupils wrote: “One of the main things that one looks forward to when one goes to Deutsche Schule Hermannsburg is the Germany Exchange Programme, which takes place when one reaches Grade 10.

“It is a privilege for us to be able to go overseas and experience a different continent and culture, as well as improve our German and make life-long friends.

“The GEP 2015 was an experience of a lifetime that we will never forget.

“We explored medieval cities and took on new challenges, such as climbing to the top of the world’s highest cathedral in Ulm, climbing high-above-the-ground obstacle courses in the “Klettergarten” in Lichtenstein and taking on the scariest of the roller-coasters at Europapark.

“It was not all fun and games though, as we visited many museums and took part in some of the school lessons of our exchange partners, as well as other educational activities.

“All in all, we are all so grateful for this amazing time and we can only hope for the future generations that the GEP continues for many years to come.

“We thank Mevrou Olivier and Mrs Walton for making this amazing experience possible.”
