IN sports news - a number of our athletes­ participated in the Menlo Park athletics trials at Treverton recently.

Imke Marx achieved third places in discus and javelin and second place in shot put. Well done, Imke.

The high school boys’ soccer team played on home ground against St Nicholas last Wednesday and, although the boys played well, they narrowly lost by one goal, with the final score at 1-2 (goal scored by Joel dos Santos). In their matches against Wembley College and Faithway, they played at Wembley over the weekend, the scores were 0-2 and 0-1 respectively.

The girls played tennis against a strong team from The Wykeham Collegiate, ending 11-46.

Arbor Day was celebrated last Monday in traditional Hermannsburg style, with the morning devotion held outdoors along with a tree-planting ceremony. The whole school turned out, along with some parents, to participate in this special devotion.

Our Grade 11 geographers spent Friday in the Warwick Triangle and other noteworthy places in Durban. This annual field trip broadens their understanding of our country and its socio-economic structures in ways that reading and hearing about it in the classroom cannot.

There was a good turn-out at Saturday’s Old Scholar gathering in Randburg, at the lovely Schwabinger Stube. It was good to see matriculants and former pupils from many different years again. These regular regional meetings ensure a good flow of information to our former pupils and keep the networking channels open
