EVERY year it is our privilege to honour the achievements of our Grade 12 soon-to-be matriculants, and 2015 was no exception. Amid the speeches and the musical interludes, recognition was given to many outstanding accomplishments. We congratulate all the Grade 12s, their parents and teachers for the excellence shown in so many fields of endeavour.

In sport, athletics half-colours went to Simon Hoffmann, Stephan Küsel, Londuthando Nkosi and Michael Zunckel. Hockey half-colours went to Ilse Ortmann and Tobias von Seydlitz, who also received cricket half-colours. Full colours were awarded for swimming to Simon­ Hoffmann, Ilse Ortmann, Michael Zunckel and Tobias von Seydlitz - Tobias and Ilse also received full colours for athletics. Christél Brooks received honours for equestrian events, representing the Sanesa KZN A-team (the school was awarded the high-school Group 1 floating trophy for her achievements).

In the cultural and academic spheres, merit certificates for the De Beers English Olympiad went to Christél Brooks, Stephan Küsel (bronze), Michelle Stansfield (bronze), Monika Lucht (silver) and Tobias von Seydlitz (silver). Full colours for environmental studies went to Christél Brooks, and honours to Monika Lucht and Tobias von Seydlitz. Music honours went to Stephan Küsel, Monika Lucht and Laura Zick. Academic half-colours were awarded to Alyssa Landman and Ashleigh Landman with full colours for academic achievement going to Christél Brooks and Monika Lucht. Laura Zick and Tobias von Seydlitz achieved academic honours and Tobias also received a Scroll of Excellence for his achievements in the South African Mathematics Olympiad.

Many trophies were awarded, quite a number as a result of generous donations. The House of the Year Award, sponsored by the sports department, went to Bushbuck this year. The recipients (and donors) of individual trophies and awards were as follows - Christél Brooks: the Ulrich Prigge German Trophy (Ulrich Prigge) and the Sports Star Trophy (Martin Marx). Alyssa Landman: the Mathematical Literacy Trophy (anonymous). Monika Lucht: Book Voucher for Advanced Programme English (anonymous). Ilse Ortmann: the Mel Taylor Trophy for History (Mel Gevers). Michelle Stansfield: the Neil Reid Accounting Trophy (Neil Reid). Laura Zick: the Morgentau Trophy for Visual Arts (Quante Bestall), the Ulrich Prigge Music Trophy (Ulrich Prigge), the KwaZulu-Natal Deutscher Kulturrat Award for German, and “Der Einsatz Pokal der 1995 Matrik Klasse”, also known as The Matric Trophy (Class of 1995). The Greytown Rotarians’ Good Fellowship Prize was shared by Christél Brooks and Monika Lucht. Tobias von Seydlitz: the Lombardozzi Tropy for Life Orientation (Mr and Mrs Markus and Pat Lombardozzi), the Gert and Wynina Jansen van Vuuren Trophy for Afrikaans Second Additional Language (Mr and Mrs Gert and Wynina Jansen van Vuuren), the Ultimate Creatures CC Trophy for Life Sciences (Jens Reissig of Ultimate Creatures CC), the Edith Clark Trophy for English Home Language (Cathryn Nel), the HMB School Trust Award for environmental matters, the A.R.T. Maharaj Memorial Geography Trophy (Maharaj family), the Alexandra Miruna Ignat Memorial Trophy for Mathematics and the Tudor Ignat Memorial Trophy for Physical Sciences (both donated by the Ignat family) and the W & K Schroeder Language Proficiency Trophy (Mr and Mrs Walter & Kathleen Schroeder).

The prestigious dux trophy was awarded to Tobias von Seydlitz, dux of the school for 2015.

In other news, we congratulate Holger Filter, who participated in the Amashova cycling event, on completing the 65km section in 2:37. We look forward to greater participation next year.
