IF you want to get children involved and interested in science, the dinosaur theme is certainly the right tool for any teacher.

Children like dinosaurs so much because they were huge, different from anything alive today, and they are extinct, so at the moment our Little Oaks are learning about these prehistoric creatures, the names of various dinosaurs and some characteristics of each one. The Grade R pupils divided themselves into small groups of “paleontologists” with each group researching a different dinosaur as group-work encourages active learning and develops crucial critical thinking, communication and decision-making skills.

The Grade RR’s compared their own size to that of a dinosaur and were amazed at how big even a baby dinosaur was.

The two Kindergarten groups covered a big dinosaur egg with hand prints and along the way they learnt what the word “fossil” means and what a paleontologist does.

We still have another week of dinosauria ahead of us and cannot wait to explore more about these amazing creatures
