IN keeping with their “green flag” eco-school status, many teachers at the Hermannsburg Primary chose to make gifts from recyclable­ materials for the Umvoti Aids Centre children.

The Hermannsburg children made bunnies, baskets and packets­ from milk and yoghurt containers and cardboard donated by the children through their and#034;Children Helping Children” project during the first term.

The children are encouraged to use their pocket money to buy the items or to do odd jobs to earn the necessary money so that it really is a project where one child helps another one. There was great delight on the part of the Umvoti Aids Centre youngsters who were thrilled to receive early Easter bunny gifts.

Our German visitors from Reutlingen have been busy. Apart from watching a rugby match for the first time, they did the canopy tour in Karkloof, spent a morning in the Kindergarten and a few days at the high school.

They’ve also been to the beach and are seeing first-hand how families in South Africa live during their stay with host families during the Easter holiday. We hope they are thoroughly enjoying their sta.

Our Grade 10 pupils are certainly looking forward to their stint in Germany, as much as they are enjoying showing the visitors around
