Houses for Pomeroy orphans

THIRTEEN houses are to be built for Aids orphans in Pomeroy thanks to the combined efforts of HomePlan projects and Herbalife raising over R700 000.

Four Herbalife members undertook an epic 5 000km journey from Swaziland to Kenya to raise money for The HomePlan Foundation, an organisation that builds houses for Aids orphans in one of South Africa’s poorest towns – Pomeroy, the objective of which was to raise enough money to build 10 houses there.

The HomePlan Foundation is run by Sister Madeleine, who has been working in South Africa since 2004 where she runs a home-based care and Aids orphan programme and the HomePlan house building project.

After months of careful planning, the team, sponsored by Herbalife and hailing primarily from the Netherlands, alongside two South Africans and a Mozambican, created a blog asking the public to donate money to begin their adventure up the East coast of Africa. They rode through Swaziland and into Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania and finally arrived in Nairobi, Kenya after two months, or 275 hours of cycling, on 5th December.
