PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma officially launched the inaugural JG Zuma Marathon in Greytown on Easter Sunday, 5 April.

The 42.2km marathon will be run on Sunday, 26 April from the Seven Oaks garage, starting at 5.30am, to the finish at Bon Accorde resort at Albert Falls.

The marathon is a qualifier for the Comrades Marathon.

New Hanover is the half-way mark and cut-off time is 11.30am at Bon Accorde resort. The organisers are expecting 10 000 entries.

Entry is R100 and entry forms can be obtained from Kings Park athletics stadium, Poobie Naidoo Sports and the Umshwati and Umvoti municipalities.

The top 10 and age-group winners will receive gold medals. All runners will receive a bronze medal, T-shirt and cap. There are also cash prizes to be won.

More information can be obtained from the event organiser on 031 701 0950.

Pointing to major events such as the Comrades Marathon and the Duzi Canoe Marathon, the organisation said the marathon would further entrench KwaZulu-Natal’s position as the host of major sporting events in South Africa
