FIVE firearms, including an AK-47, were recovered by police from the home of a woman in the Kranskop area.

The 38-year-old was arrested when SAPS officers and dog units, acting on information received, undertook a search of her house.

Two .303rifles, an AK-47, a Mauser rifle and a shotgun were found in the house.

The woman was arrested and appeared in the Kranskop Magistrateand#039;s Court last week on charges of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Police have sent the firearms for tests to establish if any have been used in crimes anywhere in the country.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Ngobeni said it was possible the firearms could have been used during faction fights and taxi-violence incidents.

She appealed to the community to continue to work with the police by providing information about illegal firearms
