Muden matrics get motivated

2015-10-21 06:00

MUDEN matrics were fortunate to spend the day with the KZN MEC of Education, Ms Neliswa Peggy Nkoyeni, in a prayer meeting at Muden community hall last Wednesday. Nkoyeni appealed to pupils to work hard this term to meet the target of a 100% pass rate. She also emphasised on the positive impact that education can have on a person’s life and how knowledge can take you places, despite the condition in which you live.

The MEC referred to her own background how she grew up as a country girl and the conditions that challenged her as education seemed impossible, but through perseverance she obtained her matric from Mbusi High and then went to a college to qualify as a teacher. And she did not stop at becoming just a teacher, she continued to climb up the ladder following and achieving different paths.Today she is the KZN Minister of Education because she invested in her future in her early days

Schools at the event were Mount Ernestina, Ebunguni, Muden combined and Nogida high school. The motivational speaker Sbusiso Buthelezi from Ukhozi FM was the master of ceremony. Praise and worship was the way to ask God to see them through their final exams. There was also a sermon by a Muden pastor and everyone was blessed. Stakeholders at the event included Umvoti Aids Centre, Letcee and Department of Education, The Department of Health, Umvoti Municipality, DSCL-VSCPP, Muden SAPS, and Santaco personnel who made the event possible. Santaco has contributed a lot to many pupils who are less fortunate. Annually it donates 500 full school uniforms to pupils in need at various schools.

Santaco is an independent organisation which has promised to sponsor bursaries for 500 000 pupils who will pass with flying colours this year. - Slindokyhle Mchunu
