Municipality is now self-serving

2015-10-28 06:00

Sir, I WANT to comment on the point made in last issue that Umvoti Municipality officials do not respond to the public and the media.

Brian Walker is spot on – our municipality does not want to reply to anyone because it would then have to be accountable and transparent – as stated in our Constitution, but that is no concern to them.

Local government is not interested in service delivery to the people, they are only interested in serving themselves.

There has been no explanation forthcoming about the accounts, only excuses in regard to the system and officials, but nothing appears to be done to correct this outrage.

The reason why the municipality has not got money is because it has wrongfully been spent on unnecessary activities which benefit them and delay service delivery to those in need.

Most of the problems and difficulties experienced is because the municipality has not employed able and qualified people, from the top officials down.

I would say that Umvoti Municipality is now a self- serving servant rather than a public-serving servant.

Remember that the change can only come about if people are prepared to work for it – the future belongs to those who are to work for it today.
