2015-09-09 06:00

PRESIDENT Zuma will be in Greytown this weekend for the annual Inkosi uMatomela Memorial gala dinner in commemoration of the life and times of the Inkosi uMatomela, a contemporary of King Shaka, founder of the Zulu nation. The weekend will be attended by members of the Nxamalala clan, government and traditional leaders and leading role players. Guest speaker will be the Minister of Higher Education, Mr Blade Nzimande.

The aim of the uMatomela Trust is to promote and improve the quality of life of the Nxamalala people. A key focus area is to provide financial assistance for education and skills development for deserving youth within Nxamalala communities. Since 2010, 253 pupils have benefitted from funds donated to the Trust.

Youth-performing cultural activities are an important part of the commemoration and will take place at Lake Merthley from 10am to 3pm on Saturday.

These activities are free and open to the community.

Greytonians are asked to be aware that there will be considerably more traffic than usual. From Saturday, 3pm to Sunday Bell intersections at Pine Cathcart and Maitland streets will be closed
