Provincial karate tourney in Umvoti

NINETY participants took part in the karate tournament hosted by Umvoti Kyokushin Karate Academy recently with the aim of improving the development of karate in Umvoti and Umzinyathi.

Sensei Sbonelo Mkhize, a development officer, said it was pleasure to see the large number of participants as it was two years since the academy had held a tournament.

There were nine karate pundits who took part and did very well to win - the national tournament held in North West on 7 March - two pundits were from the academy and did well to win - Thabiso Mngoma was first in under 55kg boys and Phuvokuhle Ngubane first in the girls’ open division.

Umvoti Kyokushin karate academy thanks the following sponsors - Min Cash, VeesAuto Breakdown, Aheers Multisave, Umvoti Municipality, Impala Tavern and Mascor Toyota Greytown.

An appeal is made to parents to encourage their children to join the karate academy to learn discipline, respect, self- esteem, self-confidence, life skills, and self-defence.

The academy trains Monday to Friday from 4.30pm to 6pm.
