Spate of house break-ins - again

2015-08-19 06:00

AN urgent appeal to householders to be more aware in regard to security has been made by Greytown Station Commander, Major Mchunu.

He told the Greytown Gazette that intensive investigations were being carried out by the Crime Intelligence Unit following the recent increase in house break-ins.

Earlier this year there had been a similar spate, but Major Mchunu said the gang responsible had been caught. He appealed to residents not to leave doors and windows unlocked and to report any suspicious individuals or circumstances immediately.

He also pointed out that residents, who were away from their home, should try to arrange some system of guarding during their absence.

In one of the burglaries over the weekend the owners were working in the garden, but had left the front door open as they were moving around. In obviously an opportunistic grab cellphones and other household items were taken.

Five armed robbers attacked the compound on the Bracken farm, Louisdale, on Thursday morning.

Field Security and Greytown were alerted. A shoot-out took place and an unconfirmed report states that one of the robbers was shot and injured and was taken from the crime scene by one of the gang.

An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen as well as a few items. The investigation is continuing
