A SUCCESSFUL Khumalo Cup was played two weekends ago with 48 players from Umhlali, Mandeni, Maidstone, Cato Ridge and Greytown. The competition was split into two – junior and senior, the aim of the development golf game was also to promote junior golf. Tim Chisane said it helped to keep youngsters away from drugs, and playing sport could contribute to a sport-playing generation­.

Junior results: 1: G. Gugushe: 42; 2: S. Mgcobo 38, 3: S. Gwala 34 oco. 4: D. Khaba and 5: N. Myeni 31 points.

Senior results: 1: K.Ntuli 40, 2: P. Dlamini 39, W. Mdunge 37 oco. 4: T. Chhono 36 points.

Longest drive: Oscar Ndawonde.

The late Mbongeni Khumalo’s grandson, a third-year psychology student, handed out the prizes and thanked all for being part of his grandfather’s day as it was his grandfather who introduced him to golf.

Peter and Nigel Harris and their wives popped into St Cathryn’s for a cup of tea recently. Peter, a member of St Cathryn’s, was proud to show his family his club.

St Cathyrn’s golfers had mixed results at the Sanlam regional finals at Princes Grant: Paul Els, 26, Brent Barkhuizen, 30 and Mike Harrison, 25 points. Lekie Sten played at Boschoek and scored 33 points.
