Tourism and business meetings

2015-05-13 06:00

GREYTOWN and surrounds has tremendous potential and this needs to be channelled through the establishment of a formal business organisation as well as a tourism body to promote the area. On Thursday 14 May a community tourism organisation meeting is to be held at 11am in the Council Chamber to set up the CTO, adopt a constitution and appoint office bearers.

This has to be done in order for Umvoti Municipality to draft an annual budget and discuss office space, etc., and the way forward.

An appeal is made to all involved anyway in the tourism industry to attend this meeting to promote the future of the area.

A second round of load shedding perhaps accounted for just 20 business people who attended the preliminary Chamber of Business meeting last week.

Despite the lack of light and the late start the general consensus was that it was essential for a Chamber of Business to be re-established in Umvoti.

Umvoti Mayor Thami Ngubane appealed to businesses in Umvoti to work together with the municipality in the interests of all and emphasised that the voice of organised business could impact positively on the development of the area.

The Umvoti Municipality is sending out forms this week for businesses to complete stating their willingness to join and a meeting will be called within two weeks to ratify same and again draw up a constitution and elect office bearers.

Umvoti Municipality is appealing to all role players to assist it in the preliminary work it is doing to establish a Chamber of Business and an official community tourism organisation. Once these are established they would be independent of the municipality, which was undertaking the preliminary requirements to establish these bodies.
