VOLLEYBALL is considered one of the most important sporting codes by the Umvoti Municipality which provided the transport to the inter-district tournament in Durban for the boys and girls teams which represented Umzinyathi.

Five districts - eThekweni, uThungulu, Umkhanyakude, Umzinyathi and iLembe - took part in the tournament which was played in a round-robin format.

Incentives were that the first, second and third-place winners and four top teams would qualify to play in the national tournament at Wits University in July.

Umzinyathi girls’ came third and received a bronze medal and qualified to play in the national tournament in July.

The boys’ Umzinyathi team came fifth.

The standard of play was very high thanks to the coaching from the KZN Volleyball Federation.

The Umzinyathi Volleyball Federation and Umvoti Volleyball Association expressed their appreciation to Umvoti Municipal manager and the sports officer for their support.
