CONGRATULATIONS to Umvoti Municipality on being award the prestigious Govan Mbeki Award for the Matimatolo rural housing project in Ward 2.

The KZN Department of Human Settlements hosts the Govan Mbeki Awards annually and this year’s event was held on Tuesday, 2 June with about 300 guests in attendance at Greyville Conference Centre.

The standard of the event was in keeping with the department’s status as the holder of the best performing province title in the national Govan Mbeki Awards.

The awards, named after struggle icon Govan Mbeki, not only showcases the excellent work done by the department, it also promotes best practices in the delivery of human settlements by honouring stakeholders and role players in the human settlements value chain.

Umvoti Municipality was nominated to participate in the awards for the first time under the category “Best Rural Housing Project”.

The Matimatolo Rural Housing Project in Ward 2 was assessed by the Human Settlements team in order to contest in the awards

Out of 11 entries, this project was one of four that made it through to the finals.

At the awards ceremony the Matimatolo Rural Housing Project was declared the best rural housing project in KwaZulu-Natal.

The municipality extends its gratitude to the implementing agent, Makhosi Nyoka and Associates as well as the Umvoti Municipality team
