Weather update for March and April

2015-04-29 14:17

SURPRISINGLY, even though the level of Lake Merthley hovers at a dismal 40%, the rainfall for March was not the lowest recorded by Pannar Research since 2007.

In March it was 87mm but was 42.5mm in 2007/08.

The 41 year mean is 95.32 – the highest March rainfall recorded in the past eight years was actually last year – a total of 150.4mm. In Greytown, Grant Gifford was 55mm for March.

Last month actually started on a high note with 43.2mm recorded on 1 March, but apart from a 17.8mm on 19 March the rest of the month’s rainfall was minimal.

Up to 22 April, just 29.6mm was recorded, the highest, 8.4mm, was on 4 April.

March temperatures were mainly high – with 10 days over 30°C – the hottest day, 34.8°, was on 10 March.

Minimum temperatures were all double figures apart from 9.9°C on 3 March and 8.4°C on 4 March.

There was a definite change in April up to 22 April. The highest temperature was 30.8°C on 2 April and the lowest 1.8°C was on 18 April
