PLEASE take note that this term we will be hosting the “Cultural Commotion” evening. The event will be at 5.30pm on 20 August at Aloe Hall. Tickets will be available from the office at R20 each.

Attending this year’s Duck Derby are members of the South African Irish Regiment Pipe Band. The band is involved with military parades throughout the year and is a regular fixture at the South African­ Tattoo which takes place annually in Johannesburg. The band has also performed internationally at the Edinburgh Tattoo. The band will be performing throughout the day on Saturday 12 September.

General knowledge Olympiad - congratulations to Phila Mnguni and CG Nefdt on coming second and third in KZN respectively.

We received the results and the following pupils were placed first to third in their classes - Grade 6: first - Joshua Bloemink, second - Jack Yeadon, third tie - Sarah Barber­ and JJ van Zuydam

Form 1: first - Jessica Maré, second - Ebrahim Haffejee, third - Tariq Pillay

Joshua Bloemink and Jack Yeadon were also first and second in KZN in Grade 6.

We welcome two new pupils to the Phase: Joanne and Tomas Evans­ in Grade 6 and Form 1, respectively. Wembley College.

JP Concert - next week we will have two performances of our concert. The first will be the dress rehearsal at 10am on Wednesday 5 August, which is for invited guests from Arcadia and other schools. Our second performance will be on Thursday 6 August at 5.30pm. Tickets available from the office at R20.

On Friday 31 July and Saturday 1 August Wembley College hosted the annual inter-house athletics meeting. The Eagles and Falcons battled it out in the field and track events over the two days and there were some fantastic performances by pupils.

The following records were broken in the track events:

• Hermien Steyn - U19 girls’ long jump - 4.10m

• Shané Annandale - U13 girls’ Hurdles - 16.75

• Micayla Reineke - U19 girls’ 800m - 3:09:28

The following pupils were recipients of the victor and victrix ludorum trophies in their respective age groups: senior primary - John Yeadon, Emma Martens, Marc Barber and Shané Annandale
