LOCAL aspiring Afro-pop artist and producer Minenhle Zakwe (17) has released a CD with four songs.

Minenhle told the Gazette that he expresses his feelings to the world through his music and in this way people get to know him.

He grew up on a farm, living with his grandmother and aunts. When he was in Grade 4 he started writing songs.

“The love I have for music comes from the legends that I grew up listening to. I would sing for my friends. The inspiration for all this were Ladysmith Black Mambazo. My grandmother loved Black Mambazo and so I was forced to listen to what she loved, and then I started loving their music.

“I’ve worked with Yung Man, Spani, Msenti and Lindani. I had a great time with these guys and I learnt a lot from them. In 2015, I met Msenti and Spani, and I told them I can rap. We then did a song together called Payback. Thereafter I moved to eFaye during the December holidays where I met Lindani M the beast. He asked me to teach him how to record in the FL Studio because he was only a beatmaker at that time. We then did a song together.”

Minenhle said another artist, Yung Man, then approached him last year to record a song together.

“We went to Seasonbeats to record a house hit titled Ama-Siren and people loved it. I’ve learnt a lot from these guys and whenever I get a chance to work with them, I’ll take it.”
