SCORES of people gathered at Nhlalakahle when Umvoti Aids Centre held a momentous celebration of Mandela Day, with an overwhelming inflow of generous donors and volunteers. Godfrey Mavundla came together with members of Parliament and the Mavundla Square; represented by Shoprite, Hollard, Pep stores, Pep Home, Markhams, Jet, Edgars Active, Barcelos, Techno Hub Café, Old Mutual, Legit, Rage, Barcelos, Lucky Jam; Buffalo Security, and a team called Operation Lungisa uMvoti renovated our crèche with paint inside and out, replaced damaged celling boards, replaced the broken door, fixed up all the broken windows, provided beautiful Mandela Day T-shirts for everyone at the centre, brought a beautiful and delicious Mandela Day cake, maintained our garden and lawn, brought groceries for the soup kitchen as well as clothes for Khayalami, Umvoti Aids Centre and Kinderhuis children as well as toys, sweets and biscuits.Legal Aid brought educational and sporting toys as well as goodie bags for the children of Umvoti Day Care Centre and Ubuhlebomvoti Special School. Min Cash sponsored groceries to provide nutritious meal to 200 children that were at the centre. Standard Bank staff came in early to weed our vegetable garden, and were later joined by inmates and Department of Correctional Service officers and the community at large. Motheo Construction Group, who are building the Greytown FET College, are in the process of fixing our driveway and our media partners Greytown Gazette and Khwezi FM were there to broadcast the activities of the day.
