A LOCAL poet from the Makhabeleni area, Ntobeko Makhaye (16), known as Dapoet, scooped a prestigious award at a poetry competition recently.

The budding poet who hails from a rural community in Greytown, thanked his producer Nhlanhla Mbhele for the remarkable role he has played in shaping his poetic talent.

As a new poet in the industry, Ntobeko said his recent achievement will serve as a reminder of his perseverance and the hard work he has done over the years.

“I am grateful for winning the award, which is the very first award in my life in the poetry industry.

“None of this would have happened if it was not for the support I get from my fans.

“I would like to encourage them to continue supporting me.

“My aim is to change people’s lives through my poems, which convey a compelling message to the people out there,” he said.

His source of inspiration comes from his family and relatives who have been supporting him from an early age when the first developed a love of poetry.

Ntobeko added: “I would like to thank my family for supporting me on this journey.”
