Alleged police killers appear in court

2019-04-03 06:00

TWO suspects accused of killing Detective Constable Thandoluhle Mhlongo appeared at the Kranskop Magistrate’s court on March 27.

The Hawks arrested the suspects, aged 20 and 32, after locating them in Durban and Pietermaritzburg. They were charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Mhlongo was shot dead after he investigated a suspicious vehicle that had been repeatedly driving recklessly on the street while he was at a local establishment on March 15. A bystander, Mazwi Zuke, was shot dead in the resulting crossfire.

According to police reports, the suspects left behind a discarded firearm after they managed to drag two of their wounded accomplices into the getaway vehicle.

Mhlongo was stationed at the Kranskop SAPS.

The matter was adjourned until April 8 to give the suspects a chance to get a legal representative.
