THE alleged killer of teenage Junior Siphumusa Gasa was granted bail on his first appearance in the Kranskop Magistrate’s Court on 10 February as the investigating officer was not present and no one opposed the granting of bail.

There was a bright future ahead for teenage Junior Siphumusa Gasa, a Grade 11 pupil at Kranskop High School, until he was attacked on 31 August, 2014 and seriously injured.

He had been with a group of friends in the Groundini area in Ntunjambili when he was found unconscious on the ground the following morning.

Taken to Ntunjambili Hospital, he was then transferred to Stanger Hospital.
It was found after a scan that Junior had been hit so hard with an object that his brain had actually shifted.

He was in ICU for two weeks and died on 14 September, 2014.

Junior had been selected as one of the top pupils in the Ilembe region in commerce and had been chosen to attend a commerce workshop in the eThekweni region the following month.

In January, Sbusiso Bhengu was arrested on a charge of murder. It was put forward that he was not considered dangerous. Bhengu was warned not to interfere with any witnesses and was granted bail.

His next court appearance is on 16 March.
