AN artist from Kranskop, Nomcebo Radebe, whose stage name is “Lee Diamond”, will be performing at the Women For Change 5 km Run being held at Sandton City Shopping Centre, Johannesburg on November 30.

Lee Diamond will be sharing a stage with Ntsiki Mazwai and LeAnne Dlamini at the event. She has also been appointed as one of the ambassadors of Women For Change.

“I’m excited about this event as it celebrates 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence,” said the artist.

Lee Diamond’s song African Woman opened doors for her and brought change in other people’s lives.

“I am proud and overwhelmed to see the song African Woman bringing some change in other women’s lives. That was the intention of the song from the beginning and it touches my heart so greatly.

“I never thought I would receive so many SMSs [and] messages on social media from abused women who have lost themselves thanking and appreciating my song, that blesses me a lot. It’s like an award for me.”

The artist performed African Woman at the People Opposing Women Abuse (Powa) Walkathon function last year.

“I would also like to give a special thanks to Dr Thulas Nkabinde, who works at a radio station called Channel Africa at the SABC in Auckland Park. He was the one who gave me the first radio interview during Women’s Month. His support for me, and against women abuse, is so amazing. Whenever I hear the repeat of my interview on Channel Africa I believe that it’s touching someone’s life,” said the singer.

The artist is realising her second single, Amazing, that is also in support of women.

Amazing is to thank and celebrate women for their love, strength and kindness that even though women are being abused, they still continue with their daily routine and smile like nothing has happened — that’s the strength of a woman. The song Amazing is also dedicated to all other women, [to tell them] to keep on striving for success despite the challenges they encounter.

“My two singles both support and celebrate Women’s Month and the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.”
