Hit Refresh – The Quest to Rediscover Microsoft’s Soul and Imagine a Better Future for Everyone

Author: Satya Nadella, with Greg Shaw and Jill Tracie Nichols

SINCE its monumental rise to the top in the early era of personal computing, Microsoft has struggled to maintain its dominance, influence and coolness in the eyes of consumers, and is viewed by many today as a reactive relic, a dinosaur constantly playing catch up with the newer and sexier trendsetters of Silicon Valley such as Apple, Google and Amazon.

Now, with a changing of the guard, Satya Nadella plans to both reinvigorate the company with what made it great and prepare it for a world speedily traversing the uncharted waters of internet and technological advancement.

In Hit Refresh, not only does Nadella update us on the current state of artificial intelligence, cloud & quantum computing and virtual reality, he also provides an inspiring tale of how an Indian-born, cricket-loving slacker became the company’s only third CEO in its 40-year history.

It’s a book that made me appreciate the enormity of Microsoft’s contribution to the world, where everyone from farmers in Kenya to Nadella’s own son struggling with cerebral palsy has mined its products for an easier and more enriching life.

Rather than offering a retrospect in his retirement, Nadella is choosing here to show us what he’s currently up against and thrillingly take us along for the ride.

Consider this the spiritual successor to Bill Gates’s The Road Ahead and a testament to Microsoft’s newfound courage and optimism moving forward.
