Fashion Babylon - Looking Up the Skirts of the World's Most Glamorous Industry

Authors: Imogen Edwards-Jones and Anonymous

AH, the fashion industry. As if we needed another reminder that not everyone is a bronze, six-foot tall Greek sculpture that belongs on a billboard on the way to the airport. If I was ever asked for proof that women truly came from Venus, I’d point towards the delectable Claudia Schiffers and Naomi Campbells of the world and argue their suspiciously perfect proportions.

In Fashion Babylon, Imogen Edwards-Jones once again pulls the curtain on an industry few people are privy to. Follow our fictional designer through months of preparing for her next fashion week as she explains what it takes to make it as an international brand and sheds light on commonly-asked questions.

Who decides what’s in fashion” and what’s not? What’s the mark-up on designer items? What impact have celebrities had on the industry?

And, is there a cost to keeping yourself paper-thin?

Revealing yet non-judgmental, the book makes a case that fashion is pretentious-less for the sake of pretentiousness and more because it has become a (fashion) victim of itself.

Author: Brandon Sanderson

For years, the world has been run by super-powered individuals known as Epics. No one knows why they exist or even if they share a common weakness. All that’s clear is that none of them want to be given orders.

At a young age, David witnessed the murder of his father by the city’s ruling Epic, Steelheart, whose rage turns everything around him into steel. It’s an episode Steelheart wishes no one learns about, and David knows why - he’s seen Steelheart bleed, and he may know what his weakness is.

Now David is on the lookout for the Reckoners, an underground group of people dedicated to defeating Epics. With them will come three of the most important challenges of his life - fighting evil, avenging his father, and trying to impress that good-looking girl on the team. - Omar Sayed.
