Chamber of business reveals sub-committee leaders

THE Bracken Timbers are hosting the next Umvoti Chamber of Business meeting that will be held at the Greytown Country Club on Thursday, November 21 starting at 5.30 pm. The meeting will adopt the Constitution for the Chamber as well as receive feedback on the committee’s activities. Snacks and a cash bar will be available during the networking session after the meeting. All interested business leaders are welcome to attend and are requested to RSVP via e-mail at pa@bluecresthold.co.za

The Umvoti Chamber of Business committee held its second meeting on October 24 whereat Mdu Madonsela was unanimously elected as deputy chairperson of the committee. Other business covered at the meeting included the adoption of a Code of Conduct for committee members and the finalisation of the Constitution for the Chamber for adoption by the members on November 21.

VARIOUS SUB-COMMITTEES HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED AND THE FOLLOWING­ COMMITTEE MEMBERS­ HAVE AGREED TO SERVE ON THE SUB-COMMITTEES:

• Security — Brian Pillay and Sean Slatter (working with Mark Bauer and the G911 team).

• Health — George Nefdt and Khethiwe Jobe.

• Skills and economic development - Arvin Aheer and Tseko Mthembu.

• Natural resources — Johan Scott and Sean Slatter.

• Tourism — Sean Slatter.

• Local economic development (LED) and municipal liaison — Mdu Madonsela and Johan Scott.

The various sub-committees are formulating their action plans and may contact other business leaders to assist them with their activities.

A positive engagement was held on October 28 with Umvoti Mayor Thami Ngubane, Municipal Manager Sphindile Ngiba and the directors of the Technical and Community Services departments.

The Chamber was encouraged by the #StrongerTogether attitude displayed by the attendees (even before the Springboks won the World Cup).

The KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs has launched Operation Vula, which aims to provide financial support to emerging businesses, including startups.
