MEMBERS of the eNhlalakahle Development Committee have vowed to shut down the FET College in Greytown. In a letter to the Umvoti Municipality, the committee complained about the lack of job opportunities for Ward 7 residents. “We have decided that if need be, the construction of the college must just stop. It is clear that one of the municipal manager’s [Sphindile Ngiba] main intentions is to disturb every project happening in Ward 7. [They] always do things that are contrary to the expectations and wishes of the people,” it said. The letter stated further that under the new leadership, the municipality’s projects have benefitted only people from other wards. The committee said Ward 10 had a road construction project but nobody from Ward 7 was employed. Committee member Nkosinathi Dlamini said in a statement: “We want the municipal manager to provide us with a platform where we can meet her and all 14 ward councillors, where she will tell us what it is that makes her to be brave in taking decisions that are so serious about our ward. Her failure to come back to us with a proper and constructive response to this matter will leave us with no other option but to stop the operation at the FET College.” Attempts to get a comment from the municipality were unsuccessful at the time of going to print.
