A JOINT operation between the uMzinyathi Task Team, the Youth Desk, members of the Department of Social Development, the Department of Education, Community Safety and Liaison, conducted a random search at four schools on February 14.

The officers went to Greytown High, Sphakeme Secondary, Tholinhlanhla Primary and Buhlebuyeza High schools.

The police used sniffer dogs to search for dangerous weapons and drugs at the schools. A screwdriver and parcel of dagga were found by the police in one of the classrooms. It’s alleged that one of the pupils dropped the items before the police arrived at the school.

Police spokesperson in Greytown Warrant Officer Pius Mnyandu said the police received complaints from schools that pupils are carrying dangerous weapons to school.

“We called other departments and visited the schools. There were no arrests made. The police found dagga and one screwdriver in one of the classrooms,” Mnyandu said.

The operation started in the morning on Valentine’s Day and continued until midday.
