SISEKELO High School Grade 8s went on a tour of Kranskop Library recently as some new pupils were not familiar with the library environment. The school understands that a library is an important source of knowledge to young minds in schools, and it develops the important habit of reading among pupils.

Kranskop librarian Thule Hendriks facilitated the programme of the day under the following points: library rules, how to become a library member, lost book penalties, photocopying fees, books that can be loaned and unloaned, and introduced the pupils to the variety of different books and where to find them on the library shelves.

Pupils were also taught that if they don’t have money to make copies for assignments they will always be allowed to sit down as a group and do their work.

If they are under peer pressure and have suicidal thoughts, they must come to the library to learn how to overcome such thoughts.

The school requested the management of the library to open on weekends so that pupils will have an opportunity to do their assignments and school related work. The management of the school thanked Miss Hendriks for her friendly welcome. — Supplied.
