GRADE 10A at Gcotoi High (Kranskop) was given a boost for their physical science lessons with a visit to the University of Kwa- Zulu-Natal in Pietermaritzburg with teacher Ms L.K. Mkhwanazi and HOD of sciences and subject teacher Mr F.S. Madlala.
The school does not have a laboratory and the purpose of the visit on September 18 was to let the pupils see how a lab operates and experience using a full range of apparatus and chemicals.

The group was welcomed by Dr Sphamandle Sithebe and masters student Nkosy Xulu.
Sithebe said the pupils needed to prioritise and focus on important matters first.

The programme was led by Sithole and Xulu, and included orientation, awareness, demonstrations, conducting experiments and monitoring the pupils while they carried out various activities.

The personnel at the Department of Chemistry at UKZN said they were impressed with such a positive move by Gcotoi to give the physical science pupils the experience of working in a lab.

Mr Madlala undertook to arrange more visits like this to encourage pupils to produce better results.
