THE spirit of adventure is alive and well as seen in Greytown on Sunday when two runners, Thommo Hart and Simphiwe Ngcobo, ran into town from their Saturday start of the John Ross Challenge in Pietermaritzburg on an 1 800km run to Maputo, and back.
Thommo, who founded the “Expeditionists”, will run the entire route barefoot, which will result in the world record for the longest journey across land, barefoot.

Expeditionists “live life as an adventure and view the journey as the destination”, and is all about giving back.
For more information on their exploration and adventure community movement visit expeditionists.org

This expedition has the same purpose as John Ross had nearly 200 years ago when he undertook his journey to get medical supplies and treatment for sick members of his ship’s crew.
Thommo is fund-raising for a lifesaving mobile cancer testing and treatment mini-van for KZN rural areas through Pink Drive. Simphiwe is raising funds for a community centre for physically and mentally challenged children.
Thommo is a passionate anthropologist, adventurer, and lover of Africa. He founded the Expeditionists on the death of his mother from cancer and created the John Ross Challenge as a means to fight cancer.
Simphiwe is a filmmaker with a passion for running and a great storyteller who hopes, through this challenge, to make a difference to the lives of 20 children and inspire a new generation of adventurers.
