Farmhouses of Old Natal

2017-10-11 06:00

UMVOTI farmhouses Holme Lacy, Umvoti Villa Farm, Aberdour and Marhmont feature in the book Farmhouses of Old Natal to be published at the end of November. Many early farmhouses have remained as family homes, often still lived in by the descendants.

Publishers, Otterley Press has selected 38 houses, from the humble to the grand, to preserve for posterity a record that will illustrate their importance as heritage buildings; repositories of South African history, and their charm as family homes with lots of photographs to highlight their importance.

It is hoped too, through the publication of this book, that these heritage sites will continue to be preserved as sadly many in the Midlands have, over the years, been vandalised or destroyed.

The coverage uses Pietermaritzburg as the pivotal point and fans across the province to include Hilton, Karkloof,
Umvoti, Dargle, Balgowan, Mooi River, Estcourt, Boston, Bulwer Road, Underberg, Donnybrook and Richmond areas.

The book is edited by Jacqueline
Kalley with plenty photographs by Hugh Bland. For all queries, email info@otter
